NICOLE DAWSON

Nicole’s musical education was developed with piano lessons and an inspirational music teacher encouraging her to write music at an early age. By 14 years old, one of Nicole’s songs “Where You Are” was used by a charity supporting Romanian orphans and was featured on television. She then went on to train in composition, piano and voice at Trinity College of Music and London College of Music. During this time she also began to work in the West End which further sealed her passion for the theatre and performing arts.

Nicole also discovered a great love for acting and under the guidance of a variety of acting coaches and directors developed the concept of “acting through song” which forms the heart of all of Nicole’s vocal work. Driven by her love of music and teaching, Nicole begun to teach piano, voice and songwriting and also developed her own unique children’s music classes. These were hugely successful and during her time in London, Nicole taught a great number of students from 2 years old up to 72. Nicole also taught in a wide range of schools as a peripatetic teacher and thrived on making music accessible to all.

One of her most notable projects was setting up “Featherstone Harmony Singers” – a choir in an inner city London school for children for whom either being part of a choir or receiving any musical theatre training was unheard of. Nicole led the choir for 5 years and opened up a whole new world to the students leading to many notable performances both at school and in the wider community.  It was during this time that Nicole further developed her skills as a choral arranger, which enabled the songs that she was working on with the various choirs she was now running, to become original, unique pieces.

Nicole’s arrangements grew in notoriety and led to establishing the now award-winning choir Do You Hear the People Sing?  Founded in 2013 and still led and directed by Nicole, the choir have performed all over the South Coast including at the Mayflower Theatre in Southampton in the UK tour of Godspell in Concert, at the Pavilion Theatre in Bournemouth and at AFC Bournemouth football ground.

Nicole leads the choir with absolute drive, passion and commitment. She draws on all her skills as a musician, choral arranger, actor and educator to lead the group to excellence and fulfilment.

Nicole also runs children’s classes Little People, Stars and Masquerade, training the next generation and giving them an excellent foundation and nurturing their own musicianship.

Nicole combines all this with a thriving private teaching practice and also raising her two young children.

Music has been Nicole’s world for her entire life. As a child, Nicole discovered musical theatre, principally “West Side Story” and “Oliver” and would listen repeatedly to them at just 4 years old!
